Questions

Short answers about how Filexco works. Cannot find yours? The legal pages list how to contact us.

How do access keys work?

Create as many as you like. Each key can be limited to chosen folders, set to read-only, and used across WebDAV.

What if I lose my master key?

If you still have your password you are fine, and you can download the key again. If you lose both, vault files cannot be recovered by anyone. Standard folders are not affected.

What happens at my bandwidth limit?

Uploads and downloads pause until the monthly reset or until you add storage. You can still browse, rename and delete. You are never billed extra.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. Your first purchase has a 15-day money-back guarantee. Renewals and later purchases are not covered. The refund policy has the details.

Where is my data stored?

In the United States or the European Union, whichever you choose. Your files stay in that region unless you move them yourself.

What is the difference between a vault and a Standard folder?

A vault is end-to-end encrypted; a Standard folder is encrypted at rest. Your browser encrypts a vault's files and names before upload with a key that Filexco never sees. In a Standard folder Filexco manages the keys, which is what lets WebDAV, search and previews of every format work. Use a Standard folder for backups, cameras and tools, and a vault for what must stay private from everyone. Vaults work in the browser only. Share links work for vault items and for files and folders in Standard folders.

Can I combine plans?

Yes. Your quota is the free 1 GB plus every active paid plan. When one plan ends, only its share goes away.

What is the 5-Year plan?

A single payment per terabyte that covers 60 months. There are no renewals. We call it 5-Year, not lifetime, because it ends after five years.

How do I become a reseller?

Resellers are approved by our team. Create an account, turn on two-factor authentication, and get in touch using the contact details on the legal pages. Approved resellers top up a prepaid balance and generate key codes in batches.

Which apps and tools work with Filexco?

Anything that speaks WebDAV, for example rclone and Cyberduck, the network drives of Windows and Mac, and most sync software. In the browser you can upload, preview, play music and video, and share.

How do I back up a server or computer to Filexco?

Create an access key, then point a backup tool such as rclone at our WebDAV address with that key. Limit the key to the backup folder, so a stolen server key cannot reach your other files.

How is my data encrypted?

Connections use TLS. Standard folders are encrypted at rest. Vaults are end-to-end encrypted: your browser encrypts them before upload, file names included, with keys that never reach Filexco, so only you can read them.

Can Filexco read my files?

In a vault, no: the keys never leave your browser, so only you can read what is inside. In a Standard folder Filexco manages the keys, which is what lets your WebDAV tools and the web app open your files. Use a vault for anything that must stay private from everyone.

Can I get back a file I deleted?

In the web app, deleted files and folders go to the Trash and stay there for 30 days, so you can restore them. They count toward your storage until then. Deleting through WebDAV is permanent unless the folder keeps earlier versions of changed files. Vaults have no Trash: deleting there is for good.

Is Filexco safe against quantum computers?

File encryption uses AES-256, which is considered safe against quantum attacks. Sharing a vault with another person uses a hybrid key exchange that combines X25519 with ML-KEM-768 (the NIST post-quantum standard FIPS 203), so a recorded share cannot be opened later by a quantum computer. Other parts, such as the TLS connection to the site, depend on your browser and on Filexco. The signatures on shares are hybrid too, Ed25519 together with ML-DSA-65 (NIST FIPS 204), so a quantum computer cannot forge who sent a share. Our blog explains exactly what is covered.

Can I share files with people who do not have an account?

Yes. You can share a file or a folder with a link. Anyone who has the link can open it in a browser without an account, and you can add a passcode and an end date. A link to a vault file stays end-to-end encrypted: its key is in the part of the link after the # sign, which browsers never send to Filexco, and you can add a password. To share with another Filexco user, you send the vault to their account and check their key fingerprint.

What is the Filexco online office?

It is a set of editors built into your Filexco account: Pages for documents, Sheets for spreadsheets and Slides for presentations. They open in your browser with nothing to install and save to your own folders or vaults, with versions you can restore. They cover everyday writing, calculating and presenting, and they export to Word, Excel and PowerPoint formats.

Can I edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files online?

Yes. Open a .docx, .xlsx or .pptx file in the web app and choose Edit in Pages, Sheets or Slides; .csv files open in Sheets. In Standard folders, older .doc, .xls, .ppt, .odt, .ods, .odp and .rtf files work too, because Filexco converts them first. The editor works on a copy, so your original file stays as it is.

Will my formatting survive when I edit an Office file?

The content does, but not every detail. Headings, bold and italic text, lists, spreadsheet formulas and slide text carry over. Complex layouts, charts and some pictures can be simplified or dropped, tables in Word files become simple rows, and Filexco warns you when that happens. Macros never run, and macro-enabled files such as .docm and .xlsm are not opened.

Can I preview documents without downloading them?

Yes. Click a file to preview Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents, PDFs, CSV files and text or code files, plus photos and videos. In a Standard folder, Filexco creates the preview for an Office file and keeps nothing. In a vault, .docx, .xlsx and .pptx files are drawn in your browser instead, so they never leave it. Password-protected files cannot be previewed.

Which file types can I open, edit and preview?

Preview: Word (.docx, .doc, .odt, .rtf), Excel (.xlsx, .xls, .ods), PowerPoint (.pptx, .ppt, .odp), PDF, CSV, TSV, plain text, Markdown and source code. Edit: .docx, .doc, .odt and .rtf in Pages; .xlsx, .xls, .ods and .csv in Sheets; .pptx, .ppt and .odp in Slides; and text and code files up to 1 MB in a plain text editor. The older formats work in Standard folders only, and Office files up to 25 MB are previewed.

Can several people edit the same document at the same time?

Not live. Filexco has no shared cursors or live co-editing today. Documents are saved as files with versions, so you can restore an earlier one, and a workspace lets a team share folders and vaults.

Is Filexco a replacement for Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace?

For everyday documents, spreadsheets and presentations it can be, but it is not a full replacement. Filexco is storage first, with editors added. It has no e-mail or calendar, no live co-editing, no comments, no macros and no charts in Sheets. If you mainly need to write, calculate, present, sign and share files privately, it covers that.

Can I export my documents to Word, Excel or PDF?

Yes. Pages exports to Word (.docx), PDF, Markdown, HTML and plain text. Sheets exports to Excel (.xlsx), CSV (the current sheet) and PDF. Slides exports to PowerPoint (.pptx), PDF and a PNG of the current slide. PDF uses your browser's print dialog, and your files stay in your storage, so you can download them at any time.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

Yes. The online office works in any browser, on a computer, phone or tablet, and signers can sign on any device. The Filexco apps for your computer and phone also give you your files and documents. The editors are more comfortable on a larger screen, especially Sheets and Slides.

Are my documents end-to-end encrypted?

Yes, when they are in a vault. New pages, notes, sheets and slides are created in a vault and encrypted in your browser with keys that never reach Filexco, so only people who hold the key can read them. Documents in a Standard folder are encrypted at rest with keys Filexco manages. You can move any document into a vault later.

What can Filexco see about my files?

In a vault we see sizes, times and the shape of your folder tree, but not names, content or keys. In a Standard folder Filexco manages the keys, so use a vault for anything that must stay private from everyone. We do not sell personal data and there are no ads. For Sign we also know the title, the signers' names and e-mail addresses, and the time, IP address and browser of each step.

Can I move files into a vault?

Yes. Choose Move on a file or folder and pick a vault as the destination. Your browser reads each file, encrypts it and its name with the vault's key and uploads it. Filexco removes the original only once its copy has arrived, and the original waits in the Trash for 30 days. Keep the tab open until it finishes. Moving out of a vault decrypts the files again, and share links to them stop working. You can move within your own folders and vaults, or within one workspace, but not between the two.

What is a team workspace?

A workspace is a shared space with its own members, roles, folders and vaults. An agency can give each client a workspace, and a company can have one per team. Files in a workspace use the owner's storage and bandwidth, and the people you invite need only a free account. Workspaces are used in the web app.

How many people can I add to a workspace, and what does a seat cost?

Seats cost nothing extra: you get 5 people for every TB of storage plans, starting at 1 TB. So 5 people fit on 1 TB, a team of 10 needs 2 TB, and 25 people fit on 5 TB. You use no seat yourself, and a person in several of your workspaces uses one seat. You can have one workspace per TB, up to 20. Open invitations count as seats until they are answered.

What can each role do in a workspace?

Viewers read and download files. Editors also add, change and delete files, with versions kept. Admins also create and delete folders, empty the Trash, and invite and manage editors and viewers. The owner also controls the plan, approves new members and can delete the workspace. Filexco enforces these roles, not just the web app.

Who can open a shared vault in a workspace?

Only the people who hold the vault's key, and the Key holders list shows exactly who they are. An owner or admin who holds the key hands it to a member from their own browser, after comparing that person's fingerprint. A member without the key sees "no key yet" and cannot read the files, and Filexco does not hold the key either. If you remove someone, they lose access at once, but files they already downloaded stay with them.

How do I invite someone, and how do they join?

Invite their e-mail address from the Workspace page. They sign in with a Filexco account that uses that exact address, open the link, and wait for you to approve them with one click. The link works for 7 days. This three-step join means a leaked link alone gives nothing.

How can I share files with clients?

You have two ways. Invite the client into a workspace with the role you choose, or send a link to a file or a folder. A share link opens in any browser without an account, and you can add a passcode and an end date. For a file in a vault, the key sits in the part of the link after the # sign, which browsers never send to us. Guests can preview PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and CSV files without saving them.

What is family storage, and who is it for?

Family storage lets you share your storage plan with the people you invite. Each person gets their own private storage, added to their own account and used in Files like any storage they own. It suits a family, friends or a small group where everyone needs space of their own. For shared folders and roles, use a team workspace.

Can I see the files of the people I share with?

No. You see how much storage each person was given and how much they use, never file names or contents. Only the person can open their files, and the people you invite do not see each other's files or e-mail addresses. Vaults a person makes are encrypted in their own browser.

What happens when a person leaves or I remove them?

Their storage returns to your pool, and you can give it to someone else. The person keeps their files in their own account for a grace period. They can download or delete them, or buy their own plan to keep them. If they used more than half of the storage, it stays held in your pool until their files are half of it or less, or the grace period ends.

What plan do I need, and how much does each person get?

You need plans that add up to 5 TB or more. You choose how much each person gets, from 1 TB in whole terabytes, up to what your plan holds. Each terabyte of storage comes with a terabyte of monthly bandwidth. What you give out leaves your own storage smaller by the same amount. You can raise or lower a person's storage at any time, down to what they already use.

How does e-signing with Filexco Sign work?

You write a document or upload a PDF, add the people who must sign, drag signature, initials, name and date fields where you want them, and send it. Each signer gets a link, confirms their e-mail address with a code, agrees to sign electronically and signs by typing or drawing. You follow every step and, when the last person has signed, you get a certificate and can save the signed PDF.

Is a signature made with Filexco Sign legally valid?

Yes, as a simple electronic signature: the standard kind that laws such as ESIGN and UETA in the US and eIDAS in the EU recognise, backed by an audit trail and a certificate.

Do the people who sign need an account?

No. A signer opens the link on any device, with no account and no limit on how many documents they sign. As the sender, a free account can create 3 documents in total, and paid plans have no limit. Free accounts copy the links to send them, and paid plans can also have Filexco e-mail them.

Can Filexco read the documents I send for signing?

No. Your browser encrypts the document with a random key before it is uploaded, and the key travels in the part of the link after the # sign, which browsers never send to us. We do know the title, the signers' names and e-mail addresses, and the time, IP address and browser of each step. Anyone who has a whole signing link can open the document, so add an access password for sensitive ones.

What proof do I get that a document was signed?

You get a certificate and a verification code. Every step (opened, e-mail confirmed, signed) is recorded with its time, IP address and browser in a tamper-evident chain, and the final seal uses hybrid Ed25519 and ML-DSA-65 signatures. Anyone can check the code on the Verify page.

What happens if the sender closes their account?

Download your signed copy and keep it: it is your proof. The online copy can be removed when the sender's account is closed or its plan ends, and the verification code stays valid for 7 years.

What do I get for free?

A free account has 1 GB of storage and 1 GB of transfer per month, with no end date and no card needed. You can use the web app, vaults, previews and the online office, and send 3 documents for signing in total. Team workspaces need storage plans that add up to at least 1 TB.

How much does Filexco cost?

Storage costs $6 per TB per month, $60 per TB per year, or $180 per TB paid once for 60 months (the 5-Year plan). There are no per-seat fees, no request fees and no overage bills: at your bandwidth limit transfers pause instead of costing more. Plans add up, monthly and yearly plans cancel any time, and your first purchase has a 15-day money-back guarantee.

What happens to my files if my plan ends?

Your files are not deleted at once. If you then store more than your remaining plans allow, uploads pause and you have 45 days, with e-mail warnings, to download, delete or add storage. After that, data over your limit is deleted. Downloads keep working during that time.

Can I make my plan bigger?

Yes. Upgrade a monthly or yearly plan on the Plan page: you pay only the difference for the rest of the period, and the new size applies at once. You can also buy a plan of another kind. Plans add up, and each one ends on its own date. To add a 5-Year plan while a subscription is running, cancel the subscription first.

Are taxes included in the price?

Prices are in US dollars and do not include tax. Where the law requires it, taxes such as VAT or sales tax are added at checkout, and the total is shown before you pay.

Share or Workspace: which should I use?

Use Share to send something: you give a person, or anyone with a link, access to a vault. They can look at and download the files, and upload if you allow it, but they cannot delete, rename or move anything. Use a Workspace when people must work together: members have roles, can edit, delete and organize shared folders and vaults, share one storage pool and leave an activity trail.

Can I cancel any time?

Yes. Open Plan, choose Cancel subscription, and your plan stops renewing. It stays active until the end of the period you paid for, and you can resume it before then. The 5-Year plan is paid once and does not renew.
