Connect an app to Filexco

The same access keys work over WebDAV. Make a key once, then paste it into your tool.

1. Create an access key

  • Log in to Filexco.
  • Open Keys in the left menu.
  • Press New key and give the key a name. Use one key per app, so you can switch one off without touching the others.
  • Under Folders and permissions, add each folder the key may reach: a whole top-level folder, or just a folder inside it. A folder starts with READ only. Switch on WRITE to upload and DELETE to delete.
  • Check Works with (WebDAV is on) and Expires (90 days by default; choose Never for a key that should not run out).
  • Press Create key, then copy the Key ID and the Secret right away. The Secret is shown once. If you lose it, create a new key.

Treat the Secret like a password. If it leaks, disable or delete the key under Keys and make a new one.

Vaults are not reachable with these tools

Vaults are end-to-end encrypted in your browser, so only the Filexco web app can open them. WebDAV reaches your normal (Standard) folders only. A vault never shows up in these tools and cannot be added to a key. To use a file with them, keep it in a normal folder. How vaults work

2. Addresses

Use the addresses of the region your folder is in. Keys shows the region (US or EU) next to each folder, and lists these addresses under Connection details. The examples in this guide use the US region: for EU, change us to eu.

  • WebDAV: US https://dav.us.filexco.com, EU https://dav.eu.filexco.com
  • HTTPS, port 443.
  • Everywhere, the user name is your Key ID and the password is your Secret.
  • WebDAV shows the top-level folders of My files at its top level.

3. Connect your tool

In the code, replace YOUR_KEY_ID, YOUR_SECRET and my-bucket with your own Key ID, Secret and folder name. Every block has a Copy button. Names of buttons and menus are those of each program's English version.

Cyberduck

  • Choose Open Connection.
  • For WebDAV, pick WebDAV (HTTPS). Enter the server dav.us.filexco.com and port 443, your Key ID as the user name and your Secret as the password.
  • Press Connect. Your folders appear at the top level.

Windows: map a drive

  • Open File Explorer, select This PC and choose Map network drive (on Windows 11 it is in the three-dot menu).
  • Pick a drive letter and enter the address below in the Folder box.
  • Tick Connect using different credentials and press Finish.
  • When Windows asks, enter your Key ID as the user name and your Secret as the password.

Windows limits files on a mapped WebDAV drive to about 50 MB by default. For larger files, use rclone, Cyberduck or another WebDAV tool.

macOS: connect in Finder

  • In Finder, choose Go > Connect to Server (Command-K).
  • Enter the address below and press Connect.
  • When Finder asks for a name and password, enter your Key ID and your Secret.
  • Your folder opens in Finder like a disk.

Troubleshooting

A certificate or date error

Connect with the host names from the table, over https, not with an IP address. A wrong date or time on your computer makes a valid certificate look expired, and a company proxy that inspects HTTPS can break the check too. Do not switch certificate checking off.

403 Forbidden or Access Denied on a path

A key reaches only the folders and permissions you gave it. Open Keys, choose Edit on the key, and check its folders and its READ, WRITE and DELETE switches. A key that is Disabled or Expired is refused too, and so is one with the protocol switched off under Works with.

A file I see in Filexco is missing over WebDAV

It is probably inside a vault. Vaults are not reachable with these tools: keep the file in a normal folder instead. Otherwise check the key's folders: a key limited to one folder inside a bucket sees only that folder.
